Learning about the Persecuted Church

The OM Discipleship Centre in Novosibirsk, Russia currently has seven students, and the six-month course combines both theory and practice. As part of their practical work, the students have to organise, prepare and lead a conference on a mission theme. This year’s theme was “The Persecuted Church.”

One of the main goals of the conference was to raise awareness among the Russian churches about what is happening to believers round the world. The day conference was designed to be very interactive, including praying for the top ten persecuted countries, writing letters to Christians who are in prison and looking at what the Bible says about persecution of believers. The students were involved in leading small groups, preaching, presenting information about different countries and making souvenirs for the participants. The group also wrote letters of support to the family of a Russian-speaking pastor who is imprisoned in Uzbekistan. Imagine what an encouragement it will be for the family to receive 40 letters written in a language they understand!

Since the conference, the students of the Discipleship Centre have been asked to use some of the material again to lead a service in one of the local Baptist churches. Please pray for the OM Russia team and the participants at the Discipleship Centre. Pray for the growth of the Church in Russia.

CREANDO CONCIENCIA ACERCA DE LA IGLESIA PERSEGUIDA – Rusia
El Centro de Discipulado de OM en Novosibirsk, Rusia, tiene actualmente siete estudiantes. El programa de seis meses combina teoría y práctica. Y como parte de este último, los estudiantes tienen que organizar, preparar y liderar una conferencia sobre el tema Misiones. Este año le tocó el turno a “La Iglesia Perseguida”.

Uno de las metas principales de la conferencia fue concientizar a las iglesias en Rusia acerca de lo que está sucediendo a los creyentes alrededor del mundo. El formato de la conferencia preveía jornadas muy intensas, que incluían oración enfocada en los diez primeros países en la lista de persecución, escritura de cartas a creyentes encarcelados y una búsqueda para descubrir qué dice la Biblia acerca de los creyentes perseguidos. Los estudiantes eran los encargados de liderar grupos pequeños, predicar, presentar informes acerca de los países y hacer souvenirs para los participantes. El grupo también escribió cartas para animar a la familia de un pastor-orador ruso que está en prisión en Uzbekistán. ¡Imagina lo que será para esta familia recibir 40 cartas escritas en un idioma que pueden entender!

Desde que se realizó la conferencia, les han pedido a los estudiantes del Centro de Discipulado que presenten algo del material utilizado en la conferencia en un culto en las iglesias bautistas.
