Take this money and give it to the ministry of OM Ukraine. Otherwise I will buy sweets with it! The money will do so much more good within OM, said one boy came to me. Soon thereafter, two of his friends did the same. We had been in the Ukraine for a couple of days for a short-term mission trip. This is one of many examples of how the trip to Ukraine in April 2009 affected us.

During one week in April 2009, a group of young people (14-15 years old) and leaders from a church in Sweden visited the Ukraine to participate in the ministry of OM Ukraine through visits to different orphanages and schools for handicapped children, house-visits as well as through sports. Not only did the Ukranian and Swedish teenagers enjoy a game of floorball, but were also able to celebrate a Sunday service together with friends in the Ukraine.

The Swedish teenagers had participated in a Christian course once a week for nearly a year, and as part of their course, had to visit another country and culture for ministry and exchange. During their studies, they had talked about three journeys: the journey of life, the journey of faith and the journey of mission. The focus of the visit to the Ukraine was on the mission journey, but we believe that their journeys of life and faith were also impacted that week. They now have a better understanding of the world and of a mission field. We are sure that many of them learnt to know Jesus better during this trip, and saw Him through the Ukrainian people and the ministry of OM Ukraine.

After a couple of busy days with ministry, we felt that we needed some time for worship and prayer, and celebrated a service with the group. It became a wonderful time were we could reflect and meet God. Almost every teenager went forward for intercession. One person, who is from a non-Christian home even took the step to follow Jesus!

In conversations with some of the youngsters, it was obvious that this trip has started something in their hearts. They expressed that they now have thoughts for the future. A couple of them even expressed that they wished to be missionaries. This shows clearly that something happened in the young people during this short-term mission trip to the Ukraine. We pray that the wish of serving God will grow stronger in these young people.

In the Ukraine, we had the opportunity to show other people love, but we also felt God’s love for us. We believe that God touched many of the participants during this mission trip.
