NEW HOPE AT THE WHITE HOUSE

The White House has new occupants – this is not a reference to the recent US elections but to a new Child Abuse Recovery Centre in Phnom Penh, Cambodia affectionately known as ‘The White House’. The house, once occupied by Pol Pot soldiers during the Khmer Rouge war, has undergone major repair and renovation by the team of workers in Cambodia and by the landlord. Now, working at the centre, a specialist team of workers will offer counselling, medical therapy, education and other services to child victims of sexual abuse and assault.

Cambodia is a kingdom of children – 50% of the population of 12 million are under 18. However thousands of children are suffering rape and abuse within their own homes and villages. One quarter of this criminal abuse is committed against children under the age of 10 years old. “Project Freedom” is the response to bring physical, mental and spiritual freedom to child victims. And the White House is a major step towards this goal. Pray for more skilled Christian workers to join this team – doctors and nurses, child psychologists, social workers, therapists and child abuse specialists are urgently needed.
