God hears the Prayers of Orphans

Blue Pens and Mosquito Nets

It was a Saturday night and the desire farthest from my mind was to debrief a team from Australia. However, there was no other time, and the team had been a lot of work to organise and orientate, however, they had been going for 3 weeks so they really needed proper debriefing. Sitting down with them I started to ask them how they had seen God work through them. “When we were in Australia we had decided to bring pens for the children but when we went to the store there were only blue pens. So we bought the lot of them. Arriving in the orphanage we offered them the simple blue pens. They were so excited and we wondered why. Then we were told that that morning the children had been praying for blue pens, because that’s the only colour they could use for their exam, and they only had black pens.” Then they proceeded to tell a story of another orphanage. “There was an orphan boy who through the program was non-responsive. Sitting on the floor he did not participate in games or songs or any part of the program. We learned that his parents had both died in a devastating cyclone and that he had suffered since from what we can only guess to be post-traumatic stress. Before we left we handed out mosquito nets and then left to return the next day. When we arrived the next morning we were met by a completely different child, he was playing and singing and participating in every part of the program. The orphanage leaders came to us and said that the last evening he had been so excited about the mosquito net he had woken up early and pumped water for the whole orphanage. As I looked at the faces of this team from Australia I realised how good our God is and how I had thought this opportunity to debrief was going to be a burden, but how God had intended it for a blessing; to see how He is at work with people – both those who are ministered to, and those doing the ministering.

School Fee’s and Rice

Daily food is a real struggle for many of the orphanages we’re working with throughout the country. Another large problem is education. Though the government states that there is free education, this education is only offered to those who pay the school fees to take the exam. Many times in the last month we’ve arrived at orphanages with bags of rice only to find out that they had had no meal for that day and had been praying for rice. The school fees are also a continual problem. Please pray for our faith that it would be strengthened as we see God provide for these children.
