Quick response for Haiti

OM’s USA office learned on a recent Friday morning that there would be an opportunity to send some supplies to orphanages in Haiti on the following Tuesday. But the items had to be at the Atlanta airport by Monday afternoon. So the OM staff contacted their local churches and asked them to announce on Sunday the urgent need for some specific items: sheets, blankets and foam camping mats.

Several churches presented the need to their congregations, and some people drove straight from church to nearby stores to purchase sleeping bags and sheets. At one church, things were piling up in the church foyer before the last services were finished! One woman went home, stripped the clean linens off of all the beds in her house brought them to the church.

So, the need was announced in churches on Sunday morning, and by mid-day Monday there was a truckload of items at OM’s USA office. The plane was loaded that night, it flew the goods to Haiti on Tuesday, and on Wednesday they were distributed to orphanages.

Praise God for the outpouring of help by Christians in many countries, and thank Him for getting this load of aid quickly to the orphanages that needed it. Pray that in the coming months, OM will be able to help churches in the USA and elsewhere link with orphanages in Haiti to provide longer-term assistance.
