Volcano eruption causes havoc in air traffic across world

Airspace all over Europe has been closed since Thursday, 15 April due to a volcanic eruption under the Eyjafjallajoekull glacier in Iceland. Though airlines have started to fly again, only 5,000 flights took place on Sunday, compared to the 24,000 that occur most Sundays*

Many OMers are stranded in different parts of the world, trying to return to Europe and the United Kingdom. “We were surprised to find our flight from Delhi to Helsinki cancelled,” reports Henriette, an OMer based in Poland, “and have been issued tickets with the same airline for next Friday. Other passengers have been issued tickets for next month – nobody really knows how long it will take for them to get home.”

OM’s International Personnel Committee (IPC) meetings have been cancelled, which were due to take place in Belgium this week. They are now holding meetings via the internet. Please pray for effective communication. Other international meetings—Senior Leaders meetings in Belgium and Communications Working Group meetings in Carlisle—are scheduled to take place next week. Please pray for those who are meant to attend these meetings, as well as for leaders’ wisdom on whether to continue as planned.
