Vegetarian fox and Jesus

“Sta-art! Sta-art!” cry the children, as the rows of seats at school quickly fill up. Excitement and anticipation is in the air: The puppet theatre is about to begin!

Backstage, a material duck is quickly pushed to the right place. The gong sounds and the story of a vegetarian fox, which nearly let itself be mislead by a bad wolf, begins. A farmer's daughter, who collects hen eggs, brings the Easter story to life through a shadow play. Suspense mounts as the children sit at the edge of their seats!

Behind the stage, there is not much space. Five people kneel on the ground, moving the puppets with outstretched arms, turning the scenery around or switching the lights on and off during a thunderstorm.

New to the OM Hungarian team, Doris (Germany) helps the local workers with this outreach programme. "I don't understand the language yet, but I am able to combine the mouth movements of the wolf with the played voice. It is not so difficult to achieve," explains Doris. "To see the enthusiasm of the children from different kindergartens and schools is infectious. This is a satisfying way of sharing the Gospel."

The final melody begins to play. Relieved, the puppeteers lean back and rest their arms. Istvan (Hungary) closes with final thoughts, and starts singing the resurrection song he had already practiced with the children. The experienced drama team wraps up the show, but not without first distributing booklets and CDs to the teachers and children.

As the team arrives sets off for their next destination, a new group of children await them eagerly and with expectation...

“An-fang-en! An-fang-en!” tönt aus den Reihen. Schnell füllt sich die Turnhalle mit den restlichen Kindern. Spannung und Vorfreude liegt in der Luft: Das Puppentheater ist da!

Hinter den Kulissen wird die Stoff-Ente noch schnell an den richtigen Platz geschoben, dann geht es los. Der Gong ertönt und die Geschichte von dem vegetarischen Fuchs beginnt, der sich beinahe vom bösen Wolf verführen lässt. Nebenbei erzählt die Bauerstochter, die die Eier der Hennen einsammelt, die durch Schattenspiel lebendig gemachte Ostergeschichte. Gebannt sitzen die Kinder auf ihren Plätzen.

Hinter der Kulisse geht es währenddessen eng zu. Fünf Leute knien am Boden, spielen mit ausgestrecktem Arm die Bewegungen der Puppe, machen sich bereit die Kulisse umzudrehen oder Lichter beim Gewitter an- und auszuschalten. Gerade neu beim OM-Ungarn-Team angekommen, hilft Doris (Deutschland) den Einheimischen bei dieser Mission. "Ich verstehe die Sprache zwar noch nicht, aber die Maulbewegungen des Wolfes mit der abgespielten Stimme zu kombinieren ist gar nicht so schwer," erklärt Doris "Die Begeisterung der Kinder der verschiedenen Kindergärten und Schulen zu sehen steckt an. Das ist eine schöne Art und Weise das Evangelium zu verkünden."

Die erlösende Abschlussmelodie erklingt. Erleichtert lehnen sich die Puppenspieler zurück. Nur Istvan aus Ungarn spricht mit lauter Stimme abschließende Gedanken und stimmt ein vorher mit den Kindern geprobtes Auferstehungslied an. Dann packt das Theater-Team alles mit routinierten Handgriffen ein und fährt, nicht ohne Hefte und CDs an Lehrer und Kinder verteilt zu haben, zum nächsten Platz. Die ersten Kinder schauen schon interessiert um die Ecke ...
