In Bangladesh, recently five new believers declared their faith by water, and each month new people are coming to Jesus in the areas where we are working.
We have already been seeing people taking public steps to express their new-found faith, over a period of years, but now we are watching fellowship groups form locally! Small local believers’ groups are sharing with their friends and close relatives, as a result of what they are learning through the training workshops, including sharing God’s word, culturally-based worship; how a family can meet to worship; and how to include other families in the areas in that group. These small groups need wisdom in the issues they seek to address in their efforts to be an authentic, culturally relevant, God-loving community.
Bangladesh has currently gone mad over the world cup football – even though the Bangladesh team is not playing there! One university has had to close because the students were demanding that there be no classes during this period. 13,000 copies of a booklet about the World Cup along with testimonies of Christian players have been printed and distributed. Also a similar DVD is being dubbed into Bengali. We hope that many people would read and watch these materials, and want to know more; and that those who are interested would be followed up, come to faith and be discipled.
