Hearing God's Love

In March 2009, an OMer met a young lady, Jasmine*, and had many opportunities to share God's love with her. Jasmine is from the Arab world, married and has three children. She is also deaf, but that has not stopped the two young ladies from forming a friendship, meeting as often as their schedules allow for good coffee and having spiritual conversations.

Six months ago, upon learning that Jasmine had read and reread the gospel of Luke many times, the team member gave her a devotional New Testament which she has regularly read since. In fact it has become a treasured possession of hers.

Two weeks ago, as Jasmine was reading the Bible, her husband took notice and told her to stop reading it. Up until then, her husband had been aware of the Bible and had seemed unconcerned by it. After a long conversation, Jasmine told her husband that she wanted to be a Christian, and her husband divorced her in the Islamic manner.

Jasmine has had to flee her family home, her husband has kept the children, and her father threatened her life should she ever return to her homeland. Since this has happened, Social Services have been contacted and they have helped her with temporary accommodation and looking into the custody of the children.

"I want you to take me to church," said Jasmine. "I want to learn the Bible. I love Jesus. I believe Him. I want to be a Christian."

Pray for the OMer as she continues to support and encourage Jasmine during this difficult time, and for reconciliation between Jasmine and her husband, so that she can be a light to her husband.
