Does it Really Matter?

“What impact can we have during a two-week outreach anyway?” asked a girl. The group from OM’s Missions Discipleship Training (MDT) was preparing for a short-term outreach. They found themselves working in the inner city of Pretoria with a ministry reaching out to homeless people. One day they met a homeless boy named Oscar. The team befriended him, and helped him get him off the streets and into a shelter for boys.

A month later the team went on another outreach organized by the same ministry. To their surprise they saw a familiar face. It was Oscar there, serving alongside them! One trainee said, “We actually got a glimpse of what God can do in one outreach!”

In fact, one of the trainees, Thabo, came to MDT in a similar way. He was living on the streets when trainees on an outreach found him and helped him get into the boys’ shelter. In the shelter he was discipled by an OMer who had been through MDT. Now Thabo has been through the six-month MDT himself and is hoping to join the Logos Hope.
