The OM Philippines team prepares flood relief packs
On 26-27 September, Metro Manila and Central Luzon were inundated by Typhoon Pedring and Quiel. Coastal areas of Metro Manila experienced storm surge that flooded major thoroughfares, shutting down businesses, electricity and transport. In nearby poor communities, houses on stilts were washed away. Now families are congesting in evacuation centres. In Central Luzon, many provinces—Bulacan, Pampanga, Tarlac, Pangasinan and several in the north—have been declared in a state of calamity.

The OM Philippines staff are safe. Seeing the devastation and need has led them to get involved in relief efforts. A leader of a local church called OM to ask if they could help distribute food packs to displaced families in their coastal community. Another pastor sent a message asking for help; he looks after 22 churches, 16 of which were flooded.

In response, OM Philippines will provide 900 food packs to begin with and divide them among the different areas. “This is a drop in the bucket considering the huge needs, but even in small ways OM Philippines would like to extend help,” says Jun Diaz, leader of OM Philippines. Please pray for those affected by the floods. Pray that OM and the Church in the Philippines will have wisdom and strength in helping those displaced by the floods.
