Desperate help needed for surgery

Carmen Laura is 15 years old and lives in Santa Elena, Petén, a remote indigenous area in Guatemala. Most inhabitants in this area – including Carmen’s parents – are returnees: people that fled to Mexico during the peak of Guatemala’s civil war between the national army and the guerrillas and returned during the peace negotiations in 1995.

A team from OM Guatemala visited the poor village a few weeks ago, during a medical outreach in the area. Doctors diagnosed the girl with a serious heart disease and told her parents that she would need surgery as soon as possible. The surgery now is scheduled for 2 September, but unfortunately the family doesn’t have the required $1000 USD to pay for it.

“I’m looking for help for this girl”, says Pilar Castro, leader of OM Guatemala. “We’re trying to find finances in Guatemala, but we need more help because 2 September is approaching soon and Carmen really needs this surgery. Please pray that God will do a miracle in her life.”
