From practicing English to sharing God's love

OMers in Argentina share about God with young people in the community during the English Talk ministry.
The story of Luciana, a young woman from Argentina, starts in March 2012. That month she started to go to the ‘English Talk’ (ET), a ministry of OM Argentina where the team uses conversation groups to build relationships in the community and shares about God through discussion topics. The now 22 year-old shares about how she has hardly missed any ET classes and how the ministry transformed her life.

Luciana’s story

Though I was never strongly against what my ET friends believed, I also didn’t feel any interest in going to church on Sundays with them. I have a family that loves me and friends - I didn’t feel like I needed to be a part of it.

But as we all know life is difficult and there comes a time when it’s hard to get up and keep going. For me, that was in the middle of 2014. I started working to earn my own income and help with my family's bills, and with university on top of that, I got really stressed. I didn’t have any time to be with my friends or to focus on my studies like I did before. Everything became hard and I didn’t know what to do.

One Friday, I’d been working all morning and had classes in the afternoon. I went home, where things weren't exactly great, and then I had ET. As I arrived, I ran into one of my best friends, who’s also an OM worker, and she asked me how I was. I couldn’t take it anymore and I fell apart. She comforted me and then asked me if she could pray for me, and I said yes. It was a very special moment, and I felt like that was what I needed in my life, a love that would never fail me. I told her that I wanted to be a part of it, I wanted to feel and have God in my life, and so the journey started.

A changed perspective

After that night, Luciana and her friend from OM started meeting every week for Bible studies and started to go to church together.

“I could already see a change in me” Luciana shared, “Everything didn’t seem as bad as before, and I had a hope that I hadn’t felt in a long time. The first time I went to church, I cried through the whole service, feeling overwhelmed with all the love running through the church.”

Today, in 2016, Luciana’s schedule looks very different to the one of 3 years ago. She participates in many activities in her church, which she calls her second home. Furthermore, she supports local OM ministries. From girls’ football classes, to joining in with a weekly kids’ club in a slum, her week is full of activities to bring love and the Gospel to the people of her community. “I have to say though, English Talk is still my favourite [ministry] without a doubt.” Luciana said.

“God has changed my life in a way I could’ve never predicted,” she shared, “and the people around me are witnesses of that. I still have bad days, like everyone, but there’s a light in my heart that wasn’t there before. No matter what happens, that light is always shining, and God‘s love does, and will always, guide me.”

Please pray for Luciana and the English Talk team that they may be instruments in the hands of God and can see many more people get to know Jesus.
